OVERALL CLASS REFLECTION AND VIDEO

Based on what you learned what are the three parts of the production process? Which one took you the longest to complete, and why? Why part of the production process was your favorite and why?
The three parts of production that we learned this semester was pre-production, production and post production. Pre-production is the process of where the script is created. This is the most important part of production. Having a good script can make or break your film project. This part is really important to focus on and implement to a good show. I had experience with pre-production when Doc Chris helped me with the  script for Nelle strictly ethnic!
Production is the part that comes after the scripting process. This is equally as important and where the filming process is implemented. Finally the post production process is where all the editing happens. Doc Chris said that there isn't that much editing to do if the filming and story telling process was done well.

2. Describe the advantages of having a course co-taught by two professors with two different yet similar approaches.
I though this was great! I think since its the first time both professor are doing this that the course things are going to have to be reevaluated so that it can go more smoothly and with more direction. However, both teachers are so creative and strong in different areas. Jay did an amazing job with teaching us editing. He knows a lot about this area of work. Jay is also very good with the camera and a great teacher. Doc Chris was very creative and had an eye for the camera. He knew how to set up a show and envision a 360 view of what should be done.

3. Describe how you grew in this class in terms of what you overcame and your sense of personal satisfaction?
I finally got behind the camera and learned how to edit! Now that I have learned how to edit a little bit I am empowered to get better and learn more. My creative eye for the camera is growing and I am eager to do more with video. I am really happy that Jay really pushed editing. With the little that I have learned I know I can get better and enhance my editing skills. Personally I wish I took advantage of Greycomm freshmen year. However, I cannot go back to then and I am going to focus on the future. I plan on working on my show called Nelle Strictly Ethnic. I hope to make 5 episodes. I would also like to film a study abroad show with5 episodes.

4. What was the best part of this class for you and would you recommend this course to friend? How different was this class from your other communications courses and other Loyola classes? Do you feel like it prepared you more for the real world because of its strong emphasis on teamwork, flexibility and tight deadlines? Explain. The best part of this class was putting together the production process and created a show. This class was different from my other communications classes because it was very interactive. I also felt as though through filming we became very close to our professors Jay and Doc Chris. I feel as though through the push for constant group work I enhanced my skills in working as a teammate. Overall this was an empowering class and I want to continue to learn more about video.

BELOW IS MY VIDEO REFLECTION

FINAL SHOW

ITS THE BIG DAY. We have finally finished filming everyones part and the final cut for Dorm Dining is done. Watch the video below and let us know what you think! Overall this was a good learning experience! We made a quick easy and cheap meal. However, this is embarrassing but my underwear was showing in parts of the filmed I tried editing that out after my group-mates uploaded the video and missed that. I thought I got all of it out...sadly I did not. This is a learning experience for me. A link to the video is below.

SHOW

This week we filmed one part of our show. Today Jenna made chicken parm! We were going to film all of our parts but did not have enough time. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving so things are a little hectic with time! We used 3 cameras. Jay and Mike came and guided us through or first filming experience. We are very grateful for them. Today was also a great learning experience we have 3 lights and it seemed fun and professional. We look forward to filming for Ryan and I and editing the entire show.

Working With Studio Cameras

This blog is for the third week of November! We have finally begun working with the cameras from the studio. On Tuesday Jay taught the class how to use the cameras and gave us a recap about lighting! The cameras are very high tech! One really cool thing we learned were the importance of white balance. Soon we are going to be filming as groups. Sadly I will not be doing my show Nelle Strictly Ethnic this semester. However, I am going to be filming a Dorm Dining show with Jenna, Will, Erica and Ryan! I am looking forward to doing this show. The plan is to have Ryan and Erica be the host. Then Jenna, Ryan and I will me making dishes that are traditional to our cultures....but most importantly its easy and fun meals that college students can learn to make in their dorms.

FINAL MOVIE TRAILER

Below is a final copy of my movie trailer remake. This was a fun project and I learned a lot. Thanks to my new friend Mike he helped me to learn some more tricks. FYI he did not do the video for me. He verbally directed me and gave me ideas. Mike is a extremely talented and a good teacher. For my trailer I decided to go with Coming to America! We have had about 2.5 weeks to work on this trailer! Between midterms and getting sick it has been hectic. Hope you enjoy!

Movie Trailer Ideas

Today I am working on finding a movie trailer that I want to work on. I have a couple of ideas. Just to name a few

Happy Feet is fun and versatile. It is a great trailer option because a wide audience watches this movie. This is an option I have in mind.

2nd I thought about Coming To America. This is a great movie and one of my all time favorites. As of now I am leaning more towards Coming To America because a lot of my classmates do not know about the movie and it would be nice to show them something thats more unknown. By tonight I should have a final plan on which I am going to do. I am looking forward to this project because it involves a lot of self learning and it will push me to become a better editor! This is a really cool first project that Doc Chris and Jay has assigned to us.
