OVERALL CLASS REFLECTION AND VIDEO

Based on what you learned what are the three parts of the production process? Which one took you the longest to complete, and why? Why part of the production process was your favorite and why?
The three parts of production that we learned this semester was pre-production, production and post production. Pre-production is the process of where the script is created. This is the most important part of production. Having a good script can make or break your film project. This part is really important to focus on and implement to a good show. I had experience with pre-production when Doc Chris helped me with the  script for Nelle strictly ethnic!
Production is the part that comes after the scripting process. This is equally as important and where the filming process is implemented. Finally the post production process is where all the editing happens. Doc Chris said that there isn't that much editing to do if the filming and story telling process was done well.

2. Describe the advantages of having a course co-taught by two professors with two different yet similar approaches.
I though this was great! I think since its the first time both professor are doing this that the course things are going to have to be reevaluated so that it can go more smoothly and with more direction. However, both teachers are so creative and strong in different areas. Jay did an amazing job with teaching us editing. He knows a lot about this area of work. Jay is also very good with the camera and a great teacher. Doc Chris was very creative and had an eye for the camera. He knew how to set up a show and envision a 360 view of what should be done.

3. Describe how you grew in this class in terms of what you overcame and your sense of personal satisfaction?
I finally got behind the camera and learned how to edit! Now that I have learned how to edit a little bit I am empowered to get better and learn more. My creative eye for the camera is growing and I am eager to do more with video. I am really happy that Jay really pushed editing. With the little that I have learned I know I can get better and enhance my editing skills. Personally I wish I took advantage of Greycomm freshmen year. However, I cannot go back to then and I am going to focus on the future. I plan on working on my show called Nelle Strictly Ethnic. I hope to make 5 episodes. I would also like to film a study abroad show with5 episodes.

4. What was the best part of this class for you and would you recommend this course to friend? How different was this class from your other communications courses and other Loyola classes? Do you feel like it prepared you more for the real world because of its strong emphasis on teamwork, flexibility and tight deadlines? Explain. The best part of this class was putting together the production process and created a show. This class was different from my other communications classes because it was very interactive. I also felt as though through filming we became very close to our professors Jay and Doc Chris. I feel as though through the push for constant group work I enhanced my skills in working as a teammate. Overall this was an empowering class and I want to continue to learn more about video.

BELOW IS MY VIDEO REFLECTION

FINAL SHOW

ITS THE BIG DAY. We have finally finished filming everyones part and the final cut for Dorm Dining is done. Watch the video below and let us know what you think! Overall this was a good learning experience! We made a quick easy and cheap meal. However, this is embarrassing but my underwear was showing in parts of the filmed I tried editing that out after my group-mates uploaded the video and missed that. I thought I got all of it out...sadly I did not. This is a learning experience for me. A link to the video is below.

SHOW

This week we filmed one part of our show. Today Jenna made chicken parm! We were going to film all of our parts but did not have enough time. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving so things are a little hectic with time! We used 3 cameras. Jay and Mike came and guided us through or first filming experience. We are very grateful for them. Today was also a great learning experience we have 3 lights and it seemed fun and professional. We look forward to filming for Ryan and I and editing the entire show.

Working With Studio Cameras

This blog is for the third week of November! We have finally begun working with the cameras from the studio. On Tuesday Jay taught the class how to use the cameras and gave us a recap about lighting! The cameras are very high tech! One really cool thing we learned were the importance of white balance. Soon we are going to be filming as groups. Sadly I will not be doing my show Nelle Strictly Ethnic this semester. However, I am going to be filming a Dorm Dining show with Jenna, Will, Erica and Ryan! I am looking forward to doing this show. The plan is to have Ryan and Erica be the host. Then Jenna, Ryan and I will me making dishes that are traditional to our cultures....but most importantly its easy and fun meals that college students can learn to make in their dorms.

FINAL MOVIE TRAILER

Below is a final copy of my movie trailer remake. This was a fun project and I learned a lot. Thanks to my new friend Mike he helped me to learn some more tricks. FYI he did not do the video for me. He verbally directed me and gave me ideas. Mike is a extremely talented and a good teacher. For my trailer I decided to go with Coming to America! We have had about 2.5 weeks to work on this trailer! Between midterms and getting sick it has been hectic. Hope you enjoy!

Movie Trailer Ideas

Today I am working on finding a movie trailer that I want to work on. I have a couple of ideas. Just to name a few

Happy Feet is fun and versatile. It is a great trailer option because a wide audience watches this movie. This is an option I have in mind.

2nd I thought about Coming To America. This is a great movie and one of my all time favorites. As of now I am leaning more towards Coming To America because a lot of my classmates do not know about the movie and it would be nice to show them something thats more unknown. By tonight I should have a final plan on which I am going to do. I am looking forward to this project because it involves a lot of self learning and it will push me to become a better editor! This is a really cool first project that Doc Chris and Jay has assigned to us.

CLASS REFLECTION PSA FINAL CUT

Today was a very exciting day. I learned some editing things from Jordan and Joelle! It was nice working with them and putting my video together! As I mentioned before we wanted to promote healthy living. We put a spin to our project and decided to focus on healthy living for women. We are all women and we believe this is a movement that we need to push and let our voices be heard. For the video Jordan did most of the editing! Joelle did the voice over and I helped with editing and finding pictures! This was a good learning experience because I got to put together a video with a team of girls that have experience. We really liked the finished product! As I said before we really wanted to empower women to be healthy! This is a good movement and hopefully student around campus get to see it.

Below is the youtube link to the video

CLASS REFLECTION

Today was more of a self learning and catch up class. We took advantage of the technological world that we live in and I called Doc Chris! He spoke to the entire class through speaker phone and gave everyone direction. Doc Chris has a very creative mind. He can envision far ahead and I admire and see that in him. Though he was not physically in the class.. and either was Jay....Doc Chris was able to teach the class as if he was there. Today I worked on my PSA with Jordan and Joelle! I also watched  Adobe Premiere and watched the videos! Linda Tutorials are EXTREMELY helpful.

CLASS REFLECTION

After making our PSA video we are now learning how to use more affects Adobe Premiere.

Topics we learned about:

-Basic motion functions
- Scale
- Rotaion

I enjoy learning about video editing. Though it is hard and somewhat challenging for me I know it is going to pay off at the end! Jay knows A LOT about editing. It is clear that he is very passionate about this. I think people learn more when the instructor has so much passion. Thats what I like about this class. Though Jay and Doc Chris have different teaching styles... there is one thing that the both of them embody. That is PASSION. They come to class ready to teach and really give us all that they have.

CLASS REFLECTION PSA

So we have finally started working on our first video group project. Today, I worked on my final product and put together a PSA video with Jordan and Joelle Hernandez. We decided to go with a healthy theme and promote a healthy and fit living! We live on a campus and in a world that continues to grow and is more health conscious. The girls and I try to stay fit and we thought this would be a great idea. I am really excited to work on this with Jordan and Joelle because they have more background on video editing. Hopefully I can learn and thing or two from them!

CLASS RELFECTION

Tuesdays class was another day with Jay! Today we advanced in what we knew about Adobe Premiere! It was very interactive we got to choose different clips and use them to mix the videos. Some of the clips that we used. For the first part of the class we used a drag car theme! We choose from drag car videos! We worked on putting the videos together to make a theme throughout the clips. Or in other words a story. We choose different parts of the interview and put it together! This was the first time i really felt like I was editing clips. Once again I fell behind because that's simply how I worked. So I waited until the end of class to practice some more on my own.

CLASS REFLECTION

SHOWS

Today we started talking more about our first project and I am getting more of a clearer outlook on things Jay and Doc Chris wants us to do.

We spoke about shows! We all need to pick a show and implement it into this class. I have been going back and forth with ideas. I am extremely indecisive and don't know what to do. I am much better at following direction. However, this is an area of creativity I need to work on!

Doc Chris and I spoke about having a travel/ethnic show. I think we are going to focus this show more on culture as a start up and TRAVEl around Baltimore to local cultural places and learn about the things they do! For example of the show would be based around a show that already exist called Next Stop

Example:

So far we have that the show will be called "Nelle's Strictly Ethnic"

CLASS RELFECTION 08/24

Adobe Premiere Pro

Today was a big day for video editing. Usually I use Imovie! I am not the best editor and it takes me a longer time than usual but once  get it I keep going.  Jay knows  A LOT about editing and is very informative. Jays ways of teaching is to have us on Adobe Premiere and while he is also on it. He showed us what to do while we did it as well. Usually I work well this way, however, my computer kept n giving a lot of trouble and I fell way behind. So I got a little distracted and decided to wait until I went home to study Adobe Premier online more.

When I  Went Home

- As I said I went home and played with Adobe Premiere. I learn best this way because I could study at my own paste and try over and over again. I went over sequences! Played around with different videos and ways to make them wider or less wide. I loo forward to learning more as the class goes on and we start having projects.

CLASS REFLECTION

TOdAY Was also more of a video example day. Doc Chris also used music videos as a way to teach. Like Jay did last class Doc Chris showed us the importance of lighting and having the cameras int the right place. This was a very interactive class. He used Jordan Joelle and Me as a way to interactively show students the different angles in which cameras go. Below is a video that Jenna took. This was fun and just a mock trial however, it gave us all a better understanding about what Doc Chris wanted.

Below is the video that summarizes the majority of class. Watch and Enjoy!

PHOTO STORY

LIGHTING

Today's class was a bit more technical. Jay taught us about lighting. Just to name a few we learned about key, back and fill lights. These are call essential parts of video making. I liked how Jay incorporated current music videos with todays lesson. One example that he had was J Cole music video. In the video Jay showed us the importance of having correct light depending on screen shots, atmospheres. colors and angles.

Jay also spoke about timing. Timing is important in everything that we do. This applies to lighting. Jay explained that the best time to shoot a video outside is before 10:30 OR after 1:30. He went on to talk about the light source and further explained the importance of timing.

We ended the class by having to take pictures and tell a story. I look forward to this. I think story telling is one of the key aspects to this class. Tonight my roommates and I are making dinner. We are going to tell a story about that. I look forward to taking six pictures and telling my story.
